Cardboard, Cockroaches and Mortein Spray
We remove all cardboard, not necessarily cereal packaging, but things like egg boxes and cardboard from packs of drinks. We never take cardboard on the boat with us. We have stuck to this rule since we left the U.K. because cockroaches like to lay their eggs in cardboard. We should have known better, but in Fiji, we bought eggs from the market, and as I brought the tray onto the deck, I saw a small brown thing emerge! There were about 30 of them! I removed the eggs, grabbed the cockroach spray, and sprayed the box. Immediately, I took the cardboard to the shore; on the way past our friend’s boat, I called to them to “pass me your cardboard” @nosharksnopirates Elliot passed his boxes, and we swiftly took them to the bin.
If I need to keep an egg box then I will spray it with cockroach spray first. Mortein seems to be the best one.
