All Blacks Experience

A trip to New Zealand wouldn’t be complete without seeing the Blacks, at least in some form. So, after landing at Auckland airport after a visit to the UK, we drove to the city to see the All Blacks Experience through four bleary eyeballs.

And what a great exhibit it is. It’s fun, interesting – and interactive. And while you are waiting to join a tour, you can while away the time either looking at the trophies on display or by making a tit of yourself playing cornhole and taking photos like the ones below.

Then, it was off to the Auckland War Memorial Museum for much-needed coffee to try to stay awake and, of course, to take a look at the exhibits. The museum is huge. There is far too much to see in one day, so I can understand people buying an annual pass.

Probably due to being knackered, we didn’t get very many photos of the place. But the war canoe in the photo below – Toki-a-Tāpiri – is magnificent. It is 25 metres long, can hold up to 100 people, and is immaculately preserved (it was built in 1836).

There are so many other artefacts in here that it was too much for our jet-addled brains to cope with. So, after another coffee and something to eat, we headed back to the car and set off to Whangarei.
